曲靖师范学院地处我国第三大河珠江的发源地、云南省第二大城市、爨文化的故乡、“全国十佳宜居城市”——曲靖市。学校办学历史最早可追溯至1907年开办的“师范传习所”,1912年设置云南省立第三师范学校,1956年更名为曲靖师范学校,1977年招收昆明师范学院曲靖普通(本科)班,1978年成立曲靖师范专科学校(1993年更名为曲靖师范高等专科学校),1984年建立曲靖教育学院。2000年3月经教育部批准,曲靖师范高等专科学校、曲靖教育学院、曲靖师范学校合并组建曲靖师范学院。2007年6月,学校以“良好”的成绩通过了教育部本科教学工作水平评估。2010年,成为云南省优质生源高校。2011年12月被中央文明委命名表彰为“全国文明单位”。

学校弘扬“苦乐交融育英才,百年树人铸精魂”的曲师精神,坚持“育人是办学第一使命,教师是办学第一资源,教学是教师第一天职,发展是办学第一要务”的办学理念,践行“刚正博爱,睿智笃行”的校训,形成了“民主和谐,求是创新”的校风,为地方经济和社会发展培养各类高级应用人才4万余人,历届校友中,涌现出了在中国革命和建设中做出贡献的徐文烈将军、《在太行山上》的词作者桂涛声、抗日名将王甲本;“全国三八红旗手”、“全国援藏教育先进个人”、党的十八大代表胡艳,“云南省教育风云人物”和“云南省百优校长”郭跨存,2008年“全国优秀大学生援教教师”和“2009年度云南教育风云人物”梁春林等大批优秀人才。学校赢得了“千里珠江,源头起航;园丁摇篮,桃李芬芳”的美好赞誉,已发展成为曲靖教育发展的龙头、合格师资培养的重要基地、先进文化建设的重要窗口。

学校现有校本部、古城和环东三个校区,占地总面积1267亩。校舍面积25万平方米;图书馆馆藏文献总量达117.5万册(种);固定资产总值4.62亿元,其中教学科研仪器设备总值4941.86万元。2004年9月建成占地1158亩,充满浓郁现代大学气息的校本部,环境优美,绿化面积占62.4%。

学校设有17个教学单位,4个教辅机构,20个研究机构,1个国家级特色建设专业,2个省级重点学科,3个省级硕士学位授权重点建设学科,2个省级重点专业,3个省级特色专业,3个省级实验教学示范中心,2个省级高校重点建设实验室,有国家体育总局研究基地1个,省哲学社会科学重点研究基地1个,8门省级精品课程,3个省级教学团队,1个省级人才培养模式创新实验示范区;设有41个全日制本科专业,17个高职高专专业,60个成人教育专业。专业涉及经济学、法学、教育学、文学、历史学、理学、工学、管理学8大学科门类。面向全国26个省(市、区)招生,现有全日制本专科在校生13500余人,另有函授、电大、网络教育在籍学生一万余人。

学校现有在职教职员工897人,其中专任教师632人,副高以上职称教师267人,高级职称教师占到专兼职教师的42.3%,博士、硕士学位(含在读)教师468人,硕博教师占专兼职教师74%以上,37位教师受聘担任上海师大、云大和云师大硕士生导师,享受国务院特殊津贴专家7人,全国优秀教师1人,享受省政府特殊津贴、省各类专业技术人才专家12人,云南省高校“教学名师”4人,云南省级名师工作室2个,长年聘任校外兼职教授150人,外籍教师9人。初步形成了一支符合本科教学要求,具有较高思想业务素质的教师队伍。

学校注重对学生创新精神、实践能力和就业竞争力的培养。学生在“挑战杯”全国大学生课外学术科技作品竞赛、全国大学生数学建模竞赛、全国大学生艺术展演比赛等各类省级以上比赛中获奖700余项。大学生“三下乡”社会实践活动,连续多年受到团中央、团省委表彰。2004年至2011年,毕业生连续八年以93%以上的就业率名列全省高校前茅,受到省教育厅的表彰。

2000年以来,学校共承担各类科研项目710余项,其中独立主持国家社会科学基金资助项目23项,独立主持和联合承担国家自然科学基金项目5项,独立主持教育部等各类项目23项,省哲学社会科学等各类项目94项,省教育厅各类项目195项,曲靖市各类项目14项,校级各类项目470项;出版专著、艺术作品集和主编教材143余部,发表论文4700余篇;获得省各类优秀成果奖35项,省部级以上各类教育教学奖105项,曲靖市社会科学优秀成果奖61项,曲靖市文学艺术创作政府奖24项。

学校积极开展国际交流与合作。成立了“云南省出国留学预备学院曲靖分院”,启动了与泰国博乐大学、泰国东方大学联合招收“1+3”留学生人才培养模式项目;与加拿大拉瓦尔大学、英国海外志愿服务社(VSO)、美国德克萨斯州泰勒市社区大学、美国职业高尔夫学院、泰国北柳皇家师范大学等学校和科研机构建立了友好关系;选派教师和学生共140余人(次),分批赴美国、加拿大、英国、澳大利亚、泰国等国学习和访问。选聘英国、荷兰、爱尔兰、美国、加拿大、瑞士等国外籍教师48人(次)到校担任教学任务;全面推进留学生招生工作。

在“十二五”时期,学校围绕2007年12月曲靖市委、市政府做出的“在2015年把曲靖师范学院建成以师范和工科为主的综合性曲靖大学”的战略决策,确立了“强本、申硕、创建综合大学”的奋斗目标,描绘了未来发展蓝图。

展望未来,学校将以科学发展观统领事业发展全局,把握地方性、师范性和教学性特点,走内涵发展之路,着力提高办学质量和水平,力争在专业覆盖、特色学科、国际化程度、区域社会影响力、贡献率诸方面形成优势,努力创建综合大学,并最终把学校办成优势明显、特色鲜明的应用型多科性大学,实现“进入西部同类高校先进行列”的远景发展目标。(数据统计截止2012年5月)

 

Qujing Normal University is located in Qujing, the second largest city in Yunnan Province, the hometown of Cuan Culture, one of the Top 10 National Residence-Friendly Cities, and where originates the Pearl River which is the third largest river in China. The University is the only degree-granting institution of higher education in Northeast Yunnan Province and enjoys preferential policies and supports from the provincial and municipal governments. In June 2007, it received a B rating in the undergraduate education accreditation by the Ministry of Education, and since 2010 it has been one of Yunnan universities enrolling high-quality students.

Carrying forward the school spirit of cultivating talents with joys and hardships and fostering a noble soul through persistent efforts and adopting the university-running idea of cultivating talents as its first mission, qualified teachers as its prime resources, teaching as the teachers’ bounden duty and development as its foremost task, the University has nurtured the motto ofintegrity, benevolence, wisdom, and practice as well as the tradition of democracy, harmony, realism and innovation. Having cultivated 40,000-odd practical talents who satisfy the local social needs, it has made great contributions to the education and eco-social development of Qujing Municipality, Yunnan Province, and even the nation. In particular, the University enjoys the reputation of rooting in the source of the long Pearl River, being the cradle for thousands of teachers, and now it plays a leading role in educational development as a base for cultivating qualified teachers and a window for the construction of advanced culture in Northeast Yunnan.

The University, consisting of three campuses, namely the Main Campus, Gucheng Campus and Huandong Campus, covers an area of 1267 mu (209 acres), with a total schoolhouse floor space of 250, 000 sq m. The fixed assets total 462 million Yuan RMB, of which the teaching and scientific research-related equipment and facilities stand at 49,418,600 Yuan RMB. On the Main Campus which was built in 2004, there are well-equipped teaching and educational facilities, like a modern all-purpose teaching building, a science and laboratory building, a Yifu Arts Building, a modern information technology center, a high-standard library stocked with over 1.175 million books, an auditorium, several sports fields and gyms, a golf course and some multimedia classrooms and halls. The well-functioning campus information network and Internet are available at every corner. Covering an area of 1158 mu (191 acres) with a green area accounting for 62.4%, the Main Campus indeed can be compared to an exceedingly beautiful scenic spot.

At present, the University has 16 teaching units, 4 teaching-supporting institutions and 20 research institutes. There are 1 national and 3 provincial featured specialties, 2 provincial key disciplines, 3 provincial key construction disciplines for Master’s-degree programs, 2 provincial key specialties, 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 key provincial university laboratories, 1 physical education research base of the State Physical Culture Administration, 1 provincial key research base of philosophy and social sciences. It has also developed 8 provincial level excellent courses, 3 provincial teaching teams and 1 provincial demonstration program of innovative education mode. The University offers 39 undergraduate programs of bachelor degrees, 17 specialties of vocational education, and 60 specialties of adult continuing education. The undergraduate programs cover 8 disciplines, namely, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, natural sciences, engineering and management. There are over 13,500 full-time students coming from China’s 26 provinces (municipalities or regions), and 10,000-odd students of correspondence, TV and online education.

The in-service faculty and staff of the University number 874, among whom 632 are full-time teachers. Of its large contingent of qualified teachers, 249 have a senior professional title, making up 38.9%; 468 have a doctor’s or master’s degree (including candidates), accounting for 66.4%; 37 are supervisors for Master’s degree students of Shanghai Normal University, Yunnan University and Yunnan Normal University; 12 enjoy special expert allowance granted by the State and provincial governments; 1 is titled National Outstanding Teacher; 5 are rated as provincial distinguished experts; 3 are titled Teaching and Research Leading Figures of Yunnan Higher Education; 4 are titled Yunnan Provincial Famous Teachers, with 2 Famous Teacher’s Workshops; and 3 are titled Excellent Teachers in Yunnan. Besides, there are 56 visiting and part-time professors and 9 foreign teachers. The faculty and staff working team, with a highly professional teaching competence, can satisfactorily meet the demands of undergraduate teaching

The University lays special emphasis on cultivating students’ innovative spirits, practical competence and employability skill. Thus the students have made dazzling achievements and have been awarded over 700 prizes in varieties of national and provincial contests, such as, the National Mathematical Modeling Competition for College Students, the Challenge Cup National Academic and Scientific Works Competition for College Students and the National Chinese Language Competence Contest for Normal University Students, etc. The University has been given a commendation for The Three Sends to the Countryside Program by the Central and Yunnan Provincial Committees of the Communist Youth League over the past 7 consecutive years. The employment rate of the graduates is over 93%, ranking among the first in Yunnan running from 2004 to 2010.

The University attaches great importance to scientific research and has made remarkable achievements. It has undertaken over 710 scientific research projects of various fields since 2000, among which its teachers solely conduct 17 national social science funding research projects and 4 natural science funding research projects as well as 287 research projects at provincial and municipal levels. The faculty has published 110 monographs, textbooks and collections of art works, and over 4000 research papers. The University has been awarded 22 prizes for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social science research, 1 for science and technology, 12 for teaching achievements in Yunnan, 105 prizes for teaching of various realms at province or ministry-level or above, and 61 for philosophy and social sciences and 24 for literature and arts from Qujing Municipal People’s Government as well.

The University has been actively carrying out international exchanges and cooperation and has established friendly relations withLaval University in Canada, the British VSO (Volunteers Service Overseas), the University of Texas at Tyler, the PGCC andCalifornia State University at San Bernardino in the USA, Rajabhat Rajanagarindra University in Thailand and some other universities and research institutions in other countries. More than 140 teachers and students of the university have visited or studied in the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, Thailand and other countries. The University has set up Yunnan PreparatoryStudying-Abroad College at Qujing and started the educational program of 1+3 model in cooperation with Burapha University andKasem Bundit University in Thailand. Up till now, the University has employed 48 foreign teachers successively, and has comprehensively promoted international student recruitment.

Qujing Municipal Committee of the CPC and Qujing Municipal People’s Government made a strategic decision in December 2007 to build Qujing Normal University into a comprehensive university mainly engaging in teacher education and engineering in 2015. Accordingly, the University has worked out an overall development blueprint for the 12th five-year plan period (2011-2015) to strengthen undergraduate education, strive to establish Master’s degree programs and develop into a comprehensive university as its short-term objective. Now the University is striving to promote its obvious advantages, distinctive features and fine efficiency in the development of undergraduate programs, construction of distinguished disciplines, level of internationalization, local impact and rate of contribution. Executing the aim of improving its strength and ability to train qualified talents and guided by the Scientific Concept of Development, it will do its utmost to attain the long-term objective to develop into an applied and multi-disciplinary local comprehensive university and become one of the best of its type in West China.
